"South to Freedom: Runaway Slaves to Mexico and the Road to Civil War" tells the story of the several thousand enslaved people who escaped to Mexico in the decades leading up to the U.S. Civil War and in the process, shows how Mexico, despite suffering from poverty, corruption, and political instability, deepened the debate about slavery in the United States (more details here and here).  

The book is coming out on November 10, 2020.
