Rhodes Scholarship winners take path less traveled

It’s no surprise that academic rigor is central to John Scotti’s life.
Scotti, a graduate of the Bishop’s School, is one of two students from San Diego County who recently won prestigious Rhodes Scholarships to Oxford University in England for graduate study. But he had little time to celebrate.
A quantum mechanics exam, among other things, awaited him at the University of Chicago, where he currently studies.

“It was a five-hour exam. We didn’t get out until midnight,” said Scotti, 21, in a recent telephone interview from Chicago.
